The USB interface can be used to support applications such as a thumb drive, or devices such as keyboards or a mouse. The UART can be used to output data over an RS-232 port while the CAN interface can be networked to communicate with other systems. The MCF5227x provides everything necessary to drive a standard operator interface by both collecting data as well as translating and processing that data over a network or serial communication. The biggest benefit of the MCF5227x is the integrated features that are on-chip, thereby saving board space and reducing overall system cost.
