Multi-string LED products like backlights for LCD TVs and solid-state light fixtures rely on intelligent LED drivers in order to operate efficiently and in accordance with end-user expectations. The main tasks of the LED driver are to monitor and control the LED strings. These tasks include controlling the power supply as the LED voltages vary, providing thermal compensation for the LED brightness, matching currents between different LED strings, and protecting against open or shorted LEDs.
