The characteristics of a LED are highly dependent on temperature. The graph to the left shows how the forward voltage of a LED changes with temperature. The graph to the right shows how the luminous intensity of the emitted light changes as a result of changing temperature. To mitigate such effects, the forward voltage of the LED needs to be monitored. Based on these observations, the voltage supply or the resistor in the LED string can be adjusted to keep the amount of light from the LED constant.
