The MSP430L092 offers a target board kit for easy startup and development. There are a couple of changes to the L092 kit compared to a traditional MSP430 kit. The L092 kit comes with an additional “Active cable” board, which is the smaller of the two boards shown here. The active cable board translates the voltage from 3V to 1.5V for the target board via a JTAG cable. This allows developers to utilize the same debugging environment used on a traditional MSP430 without building additional hardware. In addition, this kit comes with 2kB of EEPROM built on the target board to create a non-volatile memory system for developers. Since the L092 is not Flash-based, the EEPROM provides a robust prototyping solution which mimics the final production solution. More details for each of these boards is on the next slides.
