When confronted with a design challenge that requires high currents in a constrained space, it is important to turn to a high-power density solution with high efficiency. The DCR inductor current sensing eliminates the need to add sense resistors that contribute to power dissipation, and therefore, low efficiency. Also, the powerful FET drivers cut down on transitional losses, further maintaining the high efficiency of the application. As one can see from the efficiency plots shown here, the LM27402 performs at very high efficiency levels, even at high currents.
