The F5xx uses the MSP430X CPU which is completely backwards compatible with the MSP430 CPU. With a 20-bit address bus, the MSP430X CPU allows direct access and branching for a 1-MB address range without paging providing the F5xx with a long term platform for high levels of integration (memory & peripherals). The peripherals available on the F5xx will be highly compatible with existing peripherals on existing MSP430 families. The F5xx series offers designers the ability to port existing code and applications to take advantage of the increased capabilities of the F5xx with a minimum of time and effort. Additionally, the F5xx is supported with the same development tools and hardware as existing MSP430 families, again maximizing the designers’ existing investment in MSP430.
