Pin 1 of the device is the alarm output. Referenced to the common ground, the internal transistor will be turned on (signal low) if the ALD is operating normally. However if one or more of the LED strings is open, the transistor will turn off and the alarm output will go "high". Because of the internal impedance, the signal should be used in conjunction with an operational amplifier or comparator.
