The diagram on this slide shows the configuration of a rack server where a number of Pericom products (represented in teal color) are used. Redrivers are used for extending trace distance of PCI express and SAS/SATA storage connections. PCIe signal switching is used to provide switching to either chipset or to alternate storage. To provide the PCI express timing reference, both oscillator and clock distribution buffers are used. For the 10GE network interface, 10G/14G Infiniband interface, 6G hard disk drive or SSD, Pericom oscillators provide the timing reference. For DDR3 modules, the DDR3 switch provides backup automatic switching to NAND flash in case of power failure, thereby protecting vital data.
