The LTC3877’s 6-Bit VID control sets the output voltage from 0.6V to 1.23V in 10mV steps. It can also be used without VID control, producing an output voltage from 0.6V to 5V. Both ranges provide a ±1% output voltage accuracy over a -40°C to 125°C temperature range. The input voltage range is from 4.5V to 38V. Up to 12 phases can be clocked out-of-phase for very high current applications up to 300 A, Linear Technology recommends the use of the LTC3874 (phase extender) with the LTC3877 for multiphase single output applications. The LTC3877 operates with true current mode control and can be used with very low DC resistance (DCR) power inductors, due to its innovative DCR sensing architecture, enhancing the signal-to-noise ratio of the current sense signal. This DCR sensing technique dramatically reduces the switching jitter normally associated with low DCR sensing applications. A power inductor’s DCR, as low as 0.3mΩ, can be used without a sense resistor to maximize converter efficiency and increase power density. Dual onboard differential amplifiers enable true remote output voltage sensing of both output voltages.
