In summary, the AS1115 can drive up to sixty-four single LEDs or eight 7 segment displays (or any combination in-between). Also, it features detailed diagnostics for open or short LED detection. Additionally, the AS1115 is able to read back up to sixteen keys without any additional external components. To reduce communication between a host and the AS1115, any interaction between the user and the IC (a key press for example) will be indicated with an IRQ signal which leads to the I²C interface the part offers. The I²C interface limits the required interconnection on the board to a minimum of two cables (Serial Data and Clock) and, if required, the IRQ signal. Finally, the benefits of the AS1115 include a reduction in the time to market, a reduced BOM, a less expensive µP, reduced costs, and improved quality.
