The basic problem in the application shown on this slide is that 3.0Gbps SATA signal degrades after only a few inches run (6”-8”) across FR4 and must be reconstructed to meet compliance at the connector. Some PCs may feature eSATA ports at both front and back to support different consumer usage models. The rear port is handy when a drive is left permanently attached to one PC for regular system backups. This slide shows the application of the Pericom 6G SATA3 ReDrivers, PI2EQX6741SL (1.05V VDD) or Pi3EQX6741ST (3.3V VDD), to provide the eSATA connectivity.
