Renesas has a wide array of products supporting spread spectrum capabilities. Single input/output spread spectrum devices take a clock frequency input from anywhere in the system (such as PCI clocks) and apply either center spread or down spread in various selectable amounts, usually between 0.5% to 4%. Renesas also has a portfolio of spread spectrum clock synthesizers that take a clock or crystal input frequency and use PLLs to generate other desired frequencies with spread spectrum applied. An example is using an MK5814C to generate a 64MHz clock output with 0.5% center spread, from a 16MHz crystal input. Lastly, Renesas multi-PLL clock synthesizers employ spread spectrum as well. Renesas' family of Versaclock III programmable clock generators has spread spectrum capability on almost all devices. The user can easily select the direction and amount of spread to apply to the desired frequency output(s) of the devices using Versaclock Software or in system programming using I²C.
