In process, oil and gas, factory floor, and other hazardous locations, wired hazardous location limit switches are already commonly used. These wired switches are extremely robust, extremely reliable, and offer incredible customization. However, they require wire to be run to them to operate. In hazardous locations, running wire can cost more than $100 per foot, and does not allow for rapid switch re-location, retrofit applications, or greenfield sites in remote areas.
