Shown here is the two-part combination for board-to-board and mezzanine board stacking applications. Arranged this way, the 3M connector can transmit controlled impedance signals at frequencies up to 15 gigabits per second (Gbps) in a 30mm high stack. Looking at the anatomy of the connector, the precision molded body of glass filled liquid crystal polymer provides a temperature stable insulator. Gull-wing surface-mount contacts on 0.8mm spacing and alignment posts are designed for high-volume board-to-board processing. Two rows of pre-loaded gold-plated copper alloy contacts conserve board space and simplify trace routing. Optional finger latches ensure the riser card and connector stay connected when mated. On the mating side, two rows of pre-loaded gold plated copper alloy contacts wipe against the traces on the inserted riser card, and optional friction latch/locks help ensure that physical contact is maintained during use or can be easily taken apart for maintenance.
