The EM2130 has a digital communication and control interface which is compliant with the PMBus specification and is easily interfaced through the Digital Power Configurator GUI. This enables system monitors or other “smart” masters in a system to communicate with the EM2130 to read the value of various parameters such as input voltage, output voltage, output current, and temperature (known as telemetry). This interface also allows the system monitor to check fault status, and allows the EM2130 to alert a system monitor if a fault occurs. This capability enables designers to build more optimized, intelligent systems so the designer can respond to real-time data from the system. The PMBus also means that the EM2130 has integrated memory and can be programmed and configured so that various fault levels and other performance values are completely optimized for a given system. For example, a user can fine tune the output voltage to the system needs. The PMBus also provides great system flexibility because the exact same footprint can be used for different use cases. For example, the EM2130 design can be used for an FPGA core (0.9 V) and an intermediate bus rail (3.3 V) because the outputs can be programmed digitally.
