In low-profile applications requiring high bulk energy storage, the common solution is to provide banks of solid tantalum capacitors. Cornell Dubilier has a simpler solution to tackling this problem, an ultra low-profile aluminum electrolytic capacitor. A single ULP offers the equivalent bulk storage capacitance as dozens of solid tantalum chip capacitors, depending on values. The most immediate benefit is size reduction, as the ULP solution requires about 70% less board space than the equivalent bank of solid tantalum capacitors. It even eliminates the significant wasted space between banked chips. In short, this single component replacement offers higher bulk storage without bulk space.
