The emergence of high-speed digital processors and modern converters has enabled the use of closed-loop control in contrast to open-loop control. For example the trend today is to replace the open-loop stepper motors with closed-loop servos. Such systems have increased reliability and repeatability, are less susceptible to noise and drift with temperature and time, and are easier to communicate with. The Motor Control main functional blocks include: Motion Controller, Gate Driver, Power Stage, Voltage Monitoring, Current Monitoring (Current Sense), Rotor/load, Shaft position, Demand Interface, and Network Interface.
