LTC2870-Slide4

This slide shows some of the key features and benefits of the LTC2870 and the LTC2871. Data rates of 20Mbps in the RS485 mode and 500kbps when in the RS232 mode provide much faster data transfer between nodes than previous generations, thereby increasing overall system speed and performance. Improved ESD protection of ±26kV for the LTC2870 and ±16kV for the LTC2871 means that the transceivers can be exposed to harsh environments and survive high ESD discharges without affecting system performance. Automatic selection of termination resistors means that if the system configuration is changed, a technician does not need to add or remove termination resistors. This makes the system easier to configure and easier to modify as nodes are added or removed. In addition, since the resistors are on-chip, required board space is reduced and fewer external components are necessary, thus reducing the overall system cost. When configuring transceiver networks in the field, it may also be necessary to switch between half- and full-duplex communication. In this instance, the LTC2870 and LTC2871 require users to only design in one part. A single pin sets the duplex mode, providing a very simple solution that minimizes the number of parts that need to be stocked and reduces the bill of materials.
