Type UNL capacitors are made with low loss polypropylene dielectric. The dielectric material is a solid state polypropylene film which does not require the use of liquid electrolytes that are similar in chemical composition to antifreeze. In applications requiring high ripple current, low capacitance type UNL capacitors have replaced up to 4 snap-in capacitors thereby reducing component count and saving board space. By virtue of their self healing capabilities and solid state construction they are more reliable and there is no concern of electrolyte loss, or “dry-out” problems associated with aluminum electrolytics.
