Industrial applications typically have many inputs that are used to measure processes and verify operator safety. Switches & multiplexers are used to control which inputs are being measured. When selecting switches & muxes these are some factors to consider. Fault protected muxes and channel protectors can increase the system’s robustness. These devices prevent large voltage spikes (up to 55V) from damaging more sensitive circuits. Charge injection causes voltage glitches on the output. Reducing the amplitude of the glitch can be obtained by extending the turn on & turn off time. When examining charge injection specifications the customer must consider that each device has been optimized for minimal charge injection when the switched voltage =0. When the voltage increases the charge injection will change; this will be shown in a graph in the datasheet.
