In 2003 the 5 mm x 5 mm x 1.8 mm KMX52 was one of the smallest three axis accelerometers available on the market. While some automotive and industrial applications continue to use the 5 mm x 5 mm package products, Kionix continues to see pressure from consumer applications to shrink the size and height of the packages. In response to that pressure they have spent a great amount of time and resources to not only shrink the length and width, but also the height of the package. Thin accelerometers from Kionix are the KXCJB-1041 in a 3 mm x 3 mm x 0.45 mm size and the KX112-1042 in a 2 mm x 2 mm x 0.6 mm size. Kionix takes pride in the challenge to produce even lower height packages.
