Two important design features found in both the DD1 and DD2 series are guide rails and special power contacts. The guide rails are cut out of the shell of the receptacle connectors to aid in ensuring the plug or cradle connector is lined up properly during mating. The extended power contacts allow for hot plugging by ensuring that they are always the first contacts to mate and the last to break when the connectors are being mated and unmated.
