A1693 Vibration-Tolerant Hall Effect Transmission Speed and Direction Sensor

Allegro's automotive-qualified magnetic sensor with a 3-wire interface is ideal for use in rotating transmission systems

Image of Allegro's A1693 Vibration-Tolerant Hall-Effect SensorAllegro's A1693 is a magnetic sensor IC designed for measuring speed and the direction of rotating transmission systems. This device can directly measure ring magnets or be back-biased with a magnet to measure ferrous targets. The sensor incorporates three Hall effect elements that sense differentially. These element include analog signal conditioning with dynamic gain and offset adjustment, analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), and a digital processor that applies intelligent algorithms to prevent the output from switching when the sensed target vibrates.

The A1693 output is an open collector that requires a pull-up resistor. Each time a new magnetic state is detected, the output goes low for a pulse-width time that communicates a forward direction, reverse-direction, or non-direction (direction is undetermined). The sensor is AEC-Q100 qualified for automotive applications and is available in a lead-free, 4-pin, single-inline package (SIP) with 100% matte tin, lead-frame plating.

Features
  • 3-wire interface: VCC, GND, and OUT
  • Measures rotation (0 kHz to 11 kHz) and gives an incremental encoder output with pulse-widths that describe the direction of rotation
  • Robustly handles vibration and changes in air-gap
  • Peak detectors adapt to changes in air-gap
  • Vibration-detecting algorithms and low signal-lockout prevent false-switching in demanding transmission systems
  • Incrementally encodes the target rotation by generating OUT pulses
  • Inherent stray-field immunity
  • Fully-integrated mixed-signal architecture
