Competition Information
The competition will consist of three main events—two programming sessions and one word problem session. Curious about what these problems are like? Check out the 2024 competition problems from the links below.
Prizes
The best part of the competition! DigiKey will award over $12,000 in prizes to the top contenders! Check out past DKC³ winners by clicking the tab above.
- 1st Place - The team that wins first place honors will walk away with a $5000 cash prize and the coveted Bronze Traveling Trophy for their college department. Each student will receive a prize valued at $300.
- 2nd Place - The runner-up team takes back $3000 plus an individual prize valued at $200.
- 3rd Place - The third place team's department will be awarded $1000. Team members each receive a prize valued at $100.
No one goes home empty-handed. All competitors will receive an original competition t-shirt and goody bag, plus there will be plenty of opportunities to win additional prizes throughout the competition.
Who can participate?
Competitors must be of junior or senior undergraduate level majoring in Computer Science or related field. Students must be majoring in the department their team represents and cannot compete in DKC³ more than two times. Read the full competition rules at the link below for complete team criteria.

- North Dakota State University (Computer Science, Software Engineering)
- Southwest Minnesota State University (Computer Science)
- College of St. Scholastica (Computer Information Systems)
- St. Cloud State University (Computer Science)
- University of Minnesota – Crookston (Software Engineering)
- University of Minnesota - Duluth (Computer Science)
- University of Minnesota - Morris (Computer Science)
- University of North Dakota (Computer Science)
- University of Wisconsin - Stout (Computer Engineering, Computer Science)
- Valley City State University (Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering)
If you are interested in participating in DKC³ 2025 and meet the competition criteria, please contact your school to see how your department's team is being organized. The entry deadline is 3:00pm on Friday, September 26, 2025. All team registrations must be made by a faculty adviser. Student submissions will not be accepted.
