Texas Instruments' 4 V to 18 V input buck converter features differential remote sense and I2C
Texas Instruments' TPS542A50 is a high-efficiency synchronous buck converter with differential remote sense and I2C. This device features fixed-frequency voltage-control mode with pin strap selectable internal compensation for reduced system cost and complexity. The PWM can be synchronized to an external clock through the SYNC pin. Other key features include PFM for high light-load efficiency, low shutdown quiescent current draw, adjustable UVLO through the EN pin, and monotonic start-up into pre-biased conditions. This device features an I2C interface for device configuration and output voltage adjustment. The TPS542A50 is a lead-free device and is RoHS-compliant without exemption.

- Integrated 9.1 mΩ and 2.6 mΩ MOSFETs support up to 15 A output current
- Output voltage range: 0.5 V to 5.5 V
- Fixed-frequency voltage control mode with selectable internal compensation
- Seven selectable frequency settings: 400 kHz to 2.2 MHz
- Synchronizes to an external clock
- Device configurable by the analog pin strap resistors or through the I2C interface
- VOUT adjustment with controlled slew rate through I2C from -20% to +10% in 0.25% steps
- Fully differential remote sense
- Six selectable overcurrent limits, four soft-start slew rates, and two I2C addresses
- Monotonic start-up into pre-biased outputs
- EN pin allows adjustable input UVLO
- Power good indicator
- Shutdown quiescent current draw: 17 µA (typ.)
- Selectable FCCM or PFM for light-load efficiency
