The MPS HFC0512 fixed-frequency, current-mode controller incorporates internal slope compensation specifically optimized for medium-power, offline flyback switch-mode power supply designs. This controller emphasizes energy efficiency, and features a green-mode operation. Under light load conditions, it maintains the peak current (IPEAK) while lowering the switching frequency (fSW) to 27 kHz, enhancing efficiency.
During extremely light load scenarios, it transitions into burst mode to minimize standby power consumption. To mitigate conducted EMI noise, the HFC0512 employs frequency jittering, which helps spread out the electromagnetic energy.
An integrated overpower compensation (OPC) function is included to balance the overload protection (OLP) threshold across varying input voltages, reducing the disparity between low-line and high-line conditions. Comprehensive protection features include thermal shutdown, VCC undervoltage lockout (UVLO), overvoltage protection (OVP), brownout protection, and OLP. The HFC0512 is offered in a compact SOIC8-7A package.
