40-Pin IO Protector for Raspberry Pi

EDATEC's 40-pin IO protector features a tiny switch at the left board edge is to control the +5 V and +3.3 V power supplies for the daughter board. Users can switch off the daughter board by switching the tiny switch to the “OFF” position. To install the daughter board on the 40-pin connector, users don’t have to shut down the Raspberry Pi 400, only switch off the power of the 40-pin GPIO protector, which protects the Raspberry Pi 400 from damage due to a hot plug.

All 40 signals from the Raspberry Pi 400 are protected by the ESD immunity IC including the power signal. The ESD immunity IC absorbs the ESD energy of ESD including from the daughter boards. All GPIO signals are protected by current limit resistors 33 Ω. A short circuit between the GPIOs and GPIO to GND 5 V or 3.3 V won’t damage the IO of the Raspberry Pi 400.

Although the PMU provides overcurrent protection, the Raspberry Pi 400 won’t properly work when the PMU is in protection mode. The overcurrent protection limits current to 2 A at 5 V and 1.5 A at 3.3 V maximum draw from the Raspberry Pi 400, preventing the PMU from shutting down the system due to a short-circuit or overcurrent on the daughter board. A red LED indicates the status of 5 V power. When the daughter board draw too much power from the Raspberry Pi 400, the LED will blink. Two 220 µF capacitors stabilize the power supply of 5 V and 3.3 V respectively, 5*40 breadboards allow users to do experiments without additional cost.

The IO board comes with a 40-pin ribbon cable, available in grey and rainbow color options. The 40-pin black male connector has anti-reverse insertion at one end to connect the 40-pin female connector at the back of the Raspberry Pi 400. The user can install the daughter board on the IO board. The product materials are RoHS compliant.
